Lee, Je-Young. 2019. Lexical bundles in phonetics/phonology research articles: A corpus-based study. Studies in Phonetics, Phonology and Morphology 25.1. 113-129.
The purposes of this study were to investigate 4-word lexical bundles or clusters in phonetics/phonology research articles and to analyze their structural features. In order to do so, a specialized corpus of phonetics and phonology research articles (PPRAC) was constructed. It contained 55 research articles from world-renowned academic journals from 2013 to 2017. With a cut-off frequency of 20 and a cut-off range of 11, 198 lexical bundles were yielded. They were mainly related to discourse markers/organizers, phonological environment, or statistics. With regard to the structure, 85% of lexical bundles belonged to noun phrases or prepositional phrases. The list of lexical bundles in the present study is expected to be utilized for learning and teaching phonetics and phonology in English. Also, suggestions for further study are discussed.
