Park, Shinae. 2022. An
analysis of domestic study trends in English phonology using text mining. Studies in
Phonetics, Phonology and Morphology 28.1. 83-110. The purpose of this paper is to analyze domestic studies
related to English phonology. Existing literature studies in KCI and RISS are
reviewed, and the topics and categories of those studies are classified. The
direction of follow-up studies is also suggested based on the analysis. Through
this study, researchers are able to understand the interest and flow of past
English phonology studies, and, furthermore, meet objective indicators to
explore the topics of subsequent research. This study uses text-mining as an
analysis tool. Therefore, all the papers used as research subjects are analyzed
in a scientific and objective way, and the core research topics are identified by
categorizing them. The subjects of this study are 184 domestic theses published
in academic journals and 205 domestic dissertations, from 1960 to 2021, whose
titles contain
‘English phonology’ phrase. English papers are
excluded and only Korean papers are used as analysis data. The findings of this
paper show that domestic studies of English phonology are mainly focused on phonological
phenomena, phonological changes, phonological awareness, and cross-language
comparative analysis studies of Korean and English. There are also studies on
English learners’ reading and listening, vocabulary-centered studies, phonological
transfer and loanwords. (Kyungpook
